Yesterday overall seemed to be a better day for Steven. His pain was finally under control and he seemed much more himself. He did good with his exercises in the morning but unfortunately this left him in pain afterwards. Once the pain was managed Steven spent a few hours frustrated by shaking uncontrollably. The shaking was accompanied by a fever of 39.7 and low blood pressure. Dr. T came to check on Steven and confirmed he had an infection. Luckily they started Steven on antibiotics yesterday morning and by last night he improved quite a bit.
Steven had a CT scan to determine the cause of the infection. Dr. T explained he may have to go back in but clarified that this is not a major complication, just a nuisance. That was the reason I didn't post last night... we were waiting on the CT results from the Dr and didn't get the call until 1am. This call let us know that they are not going back in, yet (and hopefully not at all!).
So why did I think this was a good day for Steven? He joked with the nurses, asking about the flavour of his IV nutritional fluid (the nurse informed him it's strawberry). He was happy to get to drink the drinks in prep for the CT scan. He commented on another patient getting coffee and that McDonalds has peppermint mochas on for $1. So anyone who likes coffee, let Steven know how those peppermint mochas are.
Thanks to Moira for Frolic the dog and to the Career Centre for the card with warm wishes and gift cards.
Our love to all!
Tracy
Good Morning,
ReplyDeleteover there in "Siberia" we have actually started our day with no rain here in vancouver :) Tracy are you getting any sleep - doesn't sound like it. Gotta watch those nurses Steven giving you special treats like strawberry flavour, they are party animals! As for the Micky D's $1 peppermint mocha will give it a go and let you know. Ethel says James is as good as gold - happy, smiling and CUTE. This is making it hard for me to be patient, I just wanna give him a cuddle.
Will keep positive that the antibiotics do their job and no more surgery is required. Good to hear the Steven sense of humour is right on the surface and glad Frolic is company. Hope your day is always better than the day before. x
Very happy to hear that they have decided they don't need to go in again right now! :) I hope that the antibiotics take effect right away and the shaking goes away for his day today. I agree with Moira... I want James cuddles... Why do I live so far away? Anyways, I am there with you guys every day all day...
ReplyDeleteTell Steven that I will gladly treat him to a peppermint mocha when he is all better! :)
Love to you all...
Your BFFE.
xo.
Now that I have figured out how to post on this thing. Glad to hear that the antibiotics are doing their job. I'm more of a gingerbread latte gal and I can atest that they are delicious.
ReplyDeleteSee you all tomorrow, can't wait to give James a cuddle.
Jenni xoxox
I will get back to you on the mocha Steve!
ReplyDeleteFeel better!
Ethels hairdressers across the street from Woodcreek send healing prayers to you all! Steven will win!
ReplyDeleteYou know me, I'm not a MD or a TH girl. Buy that guy a Starbucks Peppermint Mocha from me. Get it half sweet but double whip. That should be perfect for him!
ReplyDeletePeppermind Mocha sounds delish! I got one from starbucks today! Bundled up at home studying for finals and thinking of you both. Glad to hear that you guys seem to have such great staff there at the hospital. Steven seems to be making amazing progress with his exercises - hopefully this infection doesn't cause him too much discomfort. Best wishes for a speedy recovery from this "nuissance" xox decorated the apartment today for christmas so I've got extra holiday spirit headed your way!
